Encouraged by Mother Celine, Pat Lo proposed our 50-Year Employee, Kathy Kagel, RN to LeadingAge PA for the Distinguished Service Award.
The Licensed Caregiver of the Year Award recognizes a licensed staff member who provides excellent clinical care while also demonstrating professionalism and leadership.
Here is the “Distinguished Service Award Nomination” that Pat delivered this May at the 2024 LeadingAge Conference held in Poconos, PA:
As administrator I worked closely with Kathy when she was ADON and later DON. The more I got to know her, the more I came to admire and respect her. She has a great love for the Residents -you can see it in the way her face would light up as she talks with them in a loving, teasing way. She has impressive clinical and analytical skills – I always say that she should have been a doctor. She is dedicated and responsible, working late nights even when she was raising a young family. She is a wonderful resource and help to the nursing staff. She sweats the details, carefully wording and rewording her notes and reports. She thinks of all possible scenarios and consequences for a situation – both a blessing and a curse!
Her work ethic, attention to detail, and excellent nursing skills have helped Holy Family Home receive a number of deficiency free surveys and years of 5 star ratings. Most importantly, she has and imparts the loving, family spirit of the Little Sisters of the Poor and she supports their mission of caring for the elderly poor and accompanying them on their final phase of their journey.
We are most blessed to have Kathy at our Home as a wonderful, compassionate clinician; a dedicated, hardworking staff member; and a caring friend.
