Fish Fry Foretelling Hope for the Future
See those smiling faces? They are Catholic medical students who have just been well-fed at a student-section of the Philly guild of the Catholic Medical Association fish fry, which was held Friday, March 1. The venue? A large row house on Walnut Street, which was left to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia upon the death of the woman who had lived there. It was passed to Sts. Agatha and James Parish, who at least 8 years ago, made it into a Catholic Women’s House.
The two Little Sisters in the photo, Sr. Judith and Sr. Kathleen from our Philadelphia Home, were thrilled to be present and interact with about 40 students. A significant number came a little bit later than the start time of 7 p.m., because they were participating in the sung Stations of the Cross at the nearby Sts. Agatha and James Church! Many arrived with homemade platters as a contribution to the dinner. All were bubbling with enthusiasm. What a lively exchange! Great conversation flowed freely, filled with sharing of faith, interest in hearing of the work and vocation stories of the Little Sisters, and joy of being together.
Sr. Judith and Sr. Kathleen came home from this event convinced that there is hope for the future! These young people are alive with the Catholic faith! Several of the med students had already visited Holy Family Home. Several others asked to be notified of upcoming volunteer opportunities. We are hopeful that the contacts we made with these students may allow us to work together for the good of the Church and our Congregation.
