Proud Mom
Benedict, son of our faithful care-giver, Joanise Gay, just graduated from high school and was accepted to St. Joseph’s University. What’s more, he was awarded a full scholarship. Gratitude to God welled up as “Merci, mon Dieu!” was sung by his Mom. You see, Joanise came from Haiti where she was a teacher. Her diplomas are not recognized here. Nonetheless, she has shared the importance of education.
The love of learning she encouraged and supported in her son, as well as his hard work and dedication, have brought him to this exciting next step. Benedict wanted to celebrate his thanksgiving to God. Our chaplain, Father James Sullivan, willingly agreed to offer Holy Mass on Joanise’s day off, and the happy mother and son were able to attend. Our hymns of praise were accompanied by Sr. Elizabeth Theresa at the organ. She has known Benedict since he was 8 years old when Joanise would bring him to the Home to visit.
Before and after Mass, Benedict took time with the Residents and his mother’s co-workers. Everyone loved sharing in their joy!
