Praying for Ukraine: Responding to an urgent plea
An urgent plea came from Pope Francis:
My heart aches greatly at the worsening situation in Ukraine… Now I would like to appeal to everyone, believers and non-believers alike. Jesus taught us that the diabolical senselessness of violence is answered with God’s weapons, with prayer and fasting. I invite everyone to make next 2 March, Ash Wednesday, a Day of Fasting for Peace. I encourage believers in a special way to dedicate themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war.
We at Holy Family are all very much aware of the tragic situation in Ukraine and we are praying very much for peace and for an end to the war. In addition to prayer, there have been requests for donations to help the people who are suffering. With all the Homes of the Little Sisters of the Poor, we are participating in a collection. We found the safest way to send our donation was through the Knights of Columbus. They match all donations up to $500,000. It is touching to see Residents, Staff, Little Sisters, visitors and vendors responding with their usual generosity.
