Love is in the Air!
It became apparent that love was in the air on Monday, July 10 at Holy Family Home in the St. John Paul II activities room. Carolina, an artist from Colombia, and Alex, a volunteer, entertained our Residents by sharing their gifts in “Mosaic Art Mending Spirits.” Our Residents focused on their very own glimmering, museum-worthy masterpieces. Smiles from ear to ear covered the faces of our new artists, full of gratitude for their teachers and for the hidden talents of their Resident friends.
Carolina herself marveled at the creativity of our Residents’ ability to arrange broken shells into their very own masterpieces. The same question from the Residents reverberated throughout the room, addressed to our Activity Director, Deborah ‘… Can we do this again?”
Little did they know that Carolina from Colombia had been awarded a grant to share “Mosaic Art Mending Spirits” with a non-profit. Of all the possible venues open to her, she chose Holy Family Home. Carolina says, “I’m an artist not by profession, but by preference. I’m always learning. I chose HFH to be the recipient for my grant so I could learn from the Elderly.”
She is able to come at 3:30 every Monday for 5 weeks. We wondered if anyone knew how pleased St Jeanne Jugan would be with this gathering. She always told her novices to keep the Residents involved in little tasks to keep their spirits up. Well, the spirits couldn’t have been any higher as everyone shared the love of our new friends and volunteers.
