Irish Aires
“Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!”—so the saying goes. Our 91-year-old apartment Resident, Dorothy, is one of the many proofs that it’s true. A proud alumna of Hallahan Catholic High School for Girls, she was born and bred in Philly, of Cape Verdean origin, and loves to sing, which she does very well. Dorothy knew by heart almost all the tunes at the Irish Concert presented at Holy Family Home by the Choir of Notre Dame Church in Swathmore, PA.
The lilting Irish melodies and really funny Irish ditties brought memories back to the Residents of Holy Family Home. The performers and the Residents struck up a happy harmony which fueled a festive sing-a-long. We were all touched by the different Irish blessings interspersed between each song. According to Dorothy, “That was the best singalong we’ve had yet!”
