Grandparents Day 2023
To our dear Residents, we said: “It’s your day! Sunday, July 23 honors Grandparents and the Elderly” …
Their Day began with their favorite meal, breakfast, cooked to order! Jeanne Jugan Associates arrived early to assist with serving.
10:30 a.m. Mass was for them! Residents, Little Sisters, Associates, and two Volunteer Families formed an intergenerational assembly. This was in synch with the effort of the Bishops of the United States to revive Eucharistic devotion, as well as with Pope Francis’ plea for an intergenerational celebration of this Day! After Communion, Sr. Judith accompanied us on the harp for the Meditation Hymn composed by a Little Sister on the combined theme of World Youth Day and the Day of Grandparents and Elders 2023.
At Noon, Residents savored a fabulous feast day dinner prepared with love by our dietary staff. The interaction of the various ages represented by the volunteers, families, and Little Sisters gathered around their tables made everything taste even better!
A 2:30 p.m. treat awaited the Residents in the Social Hall! They came to discover a Power Point Presentation highlighting Pope Francis’ message for this Day. Then the Residents themselves formed a great chorus when invited to sing along with the Song composed by a Little Sister on Mary’s Visitation to her Cousin Elizabeth, the theme of World Youth Day and of the Day of Grandparents and Elders 2023. Along with their well-deserved applause, the Residents willingly accepted their favorite ice cream.
4:30 p.m. Rosary, Evening Prayer and Benediction topped off a Happy Day of celebrating Grandparents and Elders!
