A Family Feast for Our Mother
As St. Jeanne Jugan would want it, we had a family feast this August 30, as she was celebrated liturgically by the Universal Church. At Holy Family Home, Residents, Little Sisters and Staff present prepared for this day by a novena of prayer and reflections on her life each evening before supper. The novena included a decade of the Rosary because St. Jeanne Jugan told us that “the Hail Mary will take us to heaven!” AJJs (Jeanne Jugan Associates) of Philadelphia and of Scranton participated in this novena via Zoom.
Holy Hour on the vigil of the solemnity was a prayerful deepening of what we had learned during the novena. The readings and refrains during this prayer vigil, the moments of silence, Evening Prayer and Benediction presided by our Chaplain, Father James Sullivan, helped us all to reflect on what our Great God continues to accomplish through his humble servant.
On August 30, 2022 for the first time in three years, St. Jeanne Jugan’s extended family was able to be together, in person, in our Chapel for the Eucharistic Celebration. We were especially happy to have the active participation of Jeanne Jugan Associates.
After Mass a delicious, well-presented dinner and a fun game of Jeanne Jugan Trivia with Residents, employees from all departments and Little Sisters continued the festivities. Finally, “Intech,” the construction company for the new building, treated everyone to “Mr. Softee’s.” St. Jeanne Jugan must have rejoiced in heaven to see “her day” celebrated as a real family feast!
