Sharing Their Hometown’s History
Little Sisters who are “Foreigners to Philly” —
Mother Celine from India
Sr. Maria Catherine from Minnesota
Sr. Myriam from Korea
Sr. Mary Grace from the Philippines
Sr. Jessica from Massachusetts
–all wanted to learn about Philadelphia’s Fascinating History. This called for a Resident-Run
–History Class, with the Little Sisters as a captive audience. Personal experiences at landmarks and human-interest stories about the Founding Fathers and Mothers made this class much more interesting than textbook knowledge. Also thrown in for good measure was how “hoagies” got their name, where scrapple comes from, the neighborhood brawl that started the Mummers’ Parade, and other interesting tidbits. The Residents were proud to share their hometown’s history and the Little Sisters were grateful for a homespun initiation to the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.
