Re-enkindling Faith in the Real Presence
This year, the Feast of Corpus Christi at Holy Family Home was doubly significant:
(1) We were able to have our first post pandemic Procession with the Blessed Sacrament throughout the Home, still wearing masks, of course, but with Residents, Staff, and Little Sisters from all units moving together. Yes, as Pope Francis is promoting synodality, we advanced together to intensify our relationship with our Eucharistic Lord. The active participation of the Residents was wonderful! An altar was erected on each of the three floors. It was they, the Residents, who suggested the decorations, the hymn to be sung, and the intercessions to be offered for the prayer service at their station.
(2) We were very conscious of celebrating Corpus Christi this year to re-enkindle our faith in the Real Presence of Jesus. Pew polls show that His closeness to us in a real way in the Eucharist is being brought into question in many quarters. It was inspiriting to feel part of the three-year eucharistic revival that was launched by US Bishops, beginning on June 19, 2022 to culminate in the Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis in July of 2024, and way beyond. We felt boosted in our discipleship! We look to Jesus hidden in the host to come alive in our lives and make us missionaries, in our own little way, to share the good news of His Real Presence!
