The highlights in June seemed to center around the family. First we had our annual Family Picnic on June 8, a beautiful Sunday afternoon filled with the wonderful smell of barbecue, the happy chatter of family members catching up, the happy screams of the children playing games, and music from the Mummers! Over 350 people attended, and our faithful, hardworking staff and volunteers helped make everything flow smoothly. Thanks to all who also participated in our Summer Raffle!
Next up was a trip to a Phillies game, courtesy of Pennoni Associates. Our Residents, a diehard family of Phillies fans, eagerly jumped at the chance to cheer for their beloved team! The rain did not dampen their spirits, and they were rewarded with a Phillies win!
Father’s Day then rolled around pretty quickly, and the men at the Home gathered for a yummy Father’s Day luncheon.
On June 19 we happily welcomed Mother Catherine, who returned as Mother of Holy Family Home after six years. The next day the Residents put on a wonderfully entertaining show, highlighting Philly themes and icons.
Unfortunately, June was also a month of saying farewell to Father McKay, who had been chaplain at Holy Family Home for 21 years. We are so grateful for the many Masses, anointings, and funerals Father officiated at for us, as well as for his spiritual guidance. Father McKay is now working full-time at Our House Ministries, which ministers to the people of Grays Ferry. Our prayers, thanks, and warm wishes go with him.
