Residents Root at the “Run for the Roses”
Holy Family Home’s Dining Room became imaginatively Churchill Downs last Saturday, and the Residents were no passive spectators at the 2023 Kentucky Derby! Apartment Resident, Paul, served Mint Juleps to add to the atmosphere. (The Mint Julep has been the traditional beverage of the Kentucky Derby for nearly a century.) The actual race is short, but the experience becomes a marked memory. At the end, when Javier, the winning jockey, took off his helmet and cried out: “Praised be Jesus Christ!” we had to clap and respond: “Now and forever!” With that, we went into the Residents’ Lounge for our usual Saturday Night Rosary for the Ukraine!
